Official Day One on the Ketogenesis Diet--Lift Off!
Right off, I am going to tell you how NOT to start the first official day of this diet. But it is how I started it off, unfortunately. So here's what happened. Never having been a real coffee drinker, I thought I would try the Bulletproof recipe with hot tea. I love hot tea, especially made with milk and sugar...or creamer and sweetener for me. To begin with I boiled 4 decaf (I can't have caffeine) teabags in just over 32 ounces of water, in a pan on the stove. This is how true chai is made, if you are a fan of chai. In general I don't make my tea this way, but I wanted the tea flavor to be strong enough to be able to taste over the butter and coconut oil. Once I removed the teabags, instead of putting the hot tea into the blender, I added the butter and coconut oil to the pan and let everything melt together, then stirred it up real good. So this next part is what you do NOT want to do. Now right away I have to say that it has been a long time since I made tea this way. I should also say I am right handed. But the way my kitchen is laid out, the stove is on my left and the sink directly in front of me, and I don't have to take a step away from the stove to be at the sink. It's right there. I placed my big mug in the sink because I know I am going to not be able to pour the tea from the pan into the cup without some spillage. Stupidly, though, I held onto the cup with my right hand, and poured with my left. Had I done this in reverse, I don't think I would have ended up pouring hot tea directly from the pan onto my fingers. But that is what happened. My stance holding that big mug with my right hand and pouring with my left, put the mug handle and my hand straight in front of the pouring liquid. If I had reversed hands, my left hand would have been holding the mug handle more perpendicular to the pan instead of directly in front. Can I say OUCH???? Can I say STUPID????
I got my big mug, which is 32 ounces, of Bulletproof Tea, plus about 3/4 cup additional. I got my hand and burned fingers under cold running water immediately. They are a tad bit pink and a tad bit stinging, but otherwise okay. WHEW!!! I'm still trying to remember just how I managed in the years of long ago to pour this hot chai into regular coffee mugs without such a dramatic result. I don't remember pouring it with the cups in the sink either. It had to be because I used my right hand to pour instead of my left. And with proper coffee mugs which have a better weight to them than the big 32 ounce mug I use that can tip over easily, I didn't hold onto them with my other hand.
So there you have it. Lift off with full burn. Ugh.
